Acupuncture is a practice rooted in 5,000 years of Chinese and Japanese medical theory. According to these theories, rather than seeing the client as “broken” or ill, the practitioner understands that the body is wise, the patient is whole, and the laws of nature allow for healing to occur naturally. During your appointment, your practitioner will spend the entire time focused on your case. Grace blends modalities within each treatment, using non-needle bodywork techniques in most acupuncture sessions. If you schedule zero balancing only, this lets Grace that you are not interested in needle-based interventions.
The intake Your first appointment in Old Town Alexandria will last 90 minutes. Your practitioner will interview you about your history and your health goals, then conduct a physical exam and diagnostic tests. Your practitioner will discuss your diagnosis and the interventions available during your session, as well as course of your treatment, what you can expect throughout the process, and any lifestyle adjustments which may be indicated. Based on this discussion, your practitioner will proceed with the agreed upon appropriate interventions – acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, gua sha, and zero balancing – according to your diagnosis and wishes.
The follow-up At each 60-minute follow-up, your practitioner will ask how you have been doing since your last appointment, including any changes you have noticed, and what your present wishes are. Your practitioner will complete any indicated diagnostics to assess how you are progressing and discuss the possible interventions with you. Based on this discussion, your practitioner will proceed with the agreed upon appropriate interventions – acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, gua sha, and zero balancing – according to your diagnosis and wishes.
